Explained on 26 October 2026. This is an educational answer drawn from the dated article below; examples are hypothetical unless a specific source observation is identified.
How it works
Start with what the fund owns, then identify the transmission channel. A market price can react before operating results change, while exporters and domestic businesses may face different effects. Several schemes can also repeat the same underlying exposure. A theme in the name is not a substitute for a dated holdings map.
A simple example
If a hypothetical portfolio has 20% in a basket that falls 10% while everything else is unchanged, its simple contribution is minus 2%. The same basket at a 5% weight contributes minus 0.5%. These are assumed scenarios, not forecasts for a named scheme.
What to check
- Check direct and indirect holdings with dates.
- Measure exposure weights before estimating an impact.
- Separate price changes from reported business results.
