The answer in plain English
A fund-house account, a demat account, a distributor platform and a public research account are different systems. A folio number identifies an investment record; it should not be treated as sufficient authorisation to access every service. If the provider uses PAN, registered contact details or an OTP, supply them only within that verified service.
What to check
- Find the AMC’s official website in AMFI’s directory. For HDFC holdings, start at hdfcfund.com and use its investor login link.
- Check whether your units are held through a folio or a demat account.
- Use the provider’s own recovery flow if registered-contact details have changed.
- Avoid sponsored lookalike pages or anyone asking for an OTP through chat or a public article comment.
A useful comparison
| Account | Purpose | Separate from |
|---|---|---|
| AMC/RTA investor login | Private folio and transaction servicing | Public research account |
| Broker/demat login | Demat holdings and exchange activity | AMC’s statement-of-account portal |
| MFCentral | Official cross-fund services | A universal password or fund manager |
| MF Analyser | Research, comparison and permitted account features | Your AMC’s private transaction record |
Make the distinction clear
Example: the fact that a fund appears in a research directory does not mean that your units are stored there. Confirm the actual service provider from your statement before trying to reset a password. MF Analyser can help identify and compare the public scheme, but it cannot recover an AMC password or establish folio ownership.
One final question before acting
Does the figure or document match the exact scheme, plan, option, period and purpose in your question? Keep the source date with the answer. For a real transaction or personal decision, the current scheme documents and your own records take priority over a saved educational example.
