Explained on 26 October 2026. This is an educational answer drawn from the dated article below; examples are hypothetical unless a specific source observation is identified.
How it works
A public inclusion date alone does not supply the missing AUM or weight. It also does not show which funds replicate fully or already own the security. Any model should state assumptions and distinguish gross target holding from incremental execution, rather than present illustrative arithmetic as measured institutional demand.
A simple example
Assume hypothetical tracking assets of ₹100 crore, a new 1% target weight and no existing position. The gross target holding is ₹1 crore. If ₹40 lakh is already held, the simple remaining gap is ₹60 lakh before flows and other adjustments.
What to check
- Use assets tracking the exact benchmark.
- Confirm effective weight and existing holdings.
- Label modelled inputs and actual execution separately.
