Explained on 26 October 2026. This is an educational answer drawn from the dated article below; examples are hypothetical unless a specific source observation is identified.
How it works
The combined figure describes the selected categories, not all participants. Prices depend on the terms at which buyers and sellers transact at the margin. Institutions can be net buyers while prices fall if selling counterparties accept lower prices, so the sign alone does not establish the index move.
A simple example
On 23 October 2026 the table used in the article showed ₹887.65 crore and ₹3,235.36 crore of net buying in the two categories. Their sum is ₹4,123.01 crore within that scope. Other counterparties complete the market accounting.
What to check
- Label the sum as the selected categories’ total.
- Remember the counterparties outside those categories.
- Do not equate net buying with a guaranteed price rise.
