The answer in plain English
A useful directory should preserve the AMC, full scheme name, Direct/Regular plan, Growth/IDCW option and a stable identifier. This prevents accidentally comparing two versions of one scheme as unrelated funds. It also helps reconcile a shortened app label with an official statement.
What to check
- Choose the asset category before building a shortlist.
- Verify current scheme names against the AMC or AMFI record.
- Read inception and available history; missing long-term data is not a zero return.
- If printing or exporting, retain the source date and identifiers rather than presenting an old PDF as a live universe.
A useful comparison
| Directory field | Purpose | Common mix-up |
|---|---|---|
| AMC | The manager’s organisation | One AMC can manage many schemes |
| Scheme | The particular investment pool | Different mandates in one house |
| Plan / option | Cost and distribution structure | Same scheme name with different NAVs |
| Identifier | Precise record matching | Shortened or renamed display labels |
Make the distinction clear
The public research view lets you search and open actual scheme pages. For an official machine-readable scheme/NAV record, AMFI publishes a dated file; record dates and coverage must be inspected before using it. A reference table is useful for finding documents, but the decision still depends on mandate, risk, cost and the investor’s goal.
Scheme-name examples from the official NAV file
These are directory examples, not a selection of the best funds. The record date is preserved for every row. Plan/option records are not a count of distinct underlying schemes; the complete official universe is larger than this short reference table.

One final question before acting
Does the figure or document match the exact scheme, plan, option, period and purpose in your question? Keep the source date with the answer. For a real transaction or personal decision, the current scheme documents and your own records take priority over a saved educational example.
