Review dated: 9 October 2026 · Explained on 12 October. NSE’s ESM annexures show two new Stage I entries, eight movements from Stage II to I and 25 framework exclusions, effective 12 October. The new entries are Infollion Research Services and Kavveri Defence & Wireless Technologies. The circular separately sets 13 October for the specified margin and segment changes. The annexures and circular must be read together.
The review has movement in both directions
Counting the official change rows produces the following picture. The chart does not count every existing security in the consolidated list, and it does not measure market capitalisation or investor losses.
The ESM review contains entries, easing and exits
securities
| Label | Value (securities) |
|---|---|
| New Stage I entries | 2 |
| Stage II→I movements | 8 |
| Framework exclusions | 25 |
The new Stage I symbols are INFOLLION and KAVDEFENCE. Annexure II marks IWARE, LAMOSAIC and THESL as continuing in the ST trade-for-trade series under a separately referenced circular. This is a specific exception in the source, not a claim that all exclusions retain the same series.
Four fields should sit beside each other
First identify the security. Then identify its framework and stage. Third identify the applicable trading series and settlement treatment. Fourth identify the effective date for each operational change. Collapsing those fields into one label removes information that matters to execution.
A move from Stage II to I is an easing within the framework. Exclusion is a departure from that framework. A retained trading series is a continuing operational condition. These can describe the same security without being contradictory.
| Field | Question to answer |
|---|---|
| Security identity | Which exact symbol and ISIN? |
| Framework and stage | Is it newly included, moved or excluded? |
| Trading series | Which execution and settlement arrangement applies? |
| Implementation date | When does each stated change become operational? |
A price band is not the same as a liquidity promise
A price band limits permitted movement under the applicable exchange mechanism. It does not guarantee that a buyer will be available when a holder wants to sell. A security can trade within an allowed range while having thin executable demand.
For a hypothetical share at ₹100, a 2% range corresponds arithmetically to ₹2 around that reference price under a simple illustration. This is not an actual price band or reference price for a named security. The permitted range and the ability to execute an order remain different questions.
Likewise, a narrower allowed move in one session does not establish a maximum total loss over several sessions. Repeated moves can accumulate, and execution can be constrained. The rule’s operation should be understood before treating a headline percentage as a complete risk limit.
Why dates can differ inside the same package
An annexure can identify the date of a stage classification while the circular separately specifies when margins or the trading segment change. Existing open positions may be covered by a stated cutoff. Those dates describe different operational steps.
The circular’s specified minimum 100% margin applies from the 13 th to the relevant open and new positions. Its provisions on Stage II and other framework conditions should be applied only to securities meeting the stated scope. Do not assign a Stage II condition to every newly named Stage I entry.
A current broker explanation linked to the official material is useful when an investor needs the account-level effect. The article supplies the distinction between fields and dates; it does not replace the broker’s operational calculation.
Market oversight and company assessment remain different
NSE says ESM shortlisting is a market-surveillance action and should not be construed as an adverse action against the company. The reader should retain that qualification when interpreting both inclusions and exclusions. The notice is not a judgment on every aspect of the business.
Company analysis still requires operating results, cash flow, debt and governance disclosures. A change in trading treatment can alter liquidity without changing those underlying facts. A broader conclusion about investment quality requires the separate evidence.
Price reactions are also not predetermined. Investors may respond to the operational change, to company news or to market conditions arriving at the same time. Observing a return immediately after the notice does not isolate the notice’s causal effect.
A practical way to follow the review
Match your holdings to the change annexures, then use the full package to check the current stage and footnotes. Keep a record of effective dates. If studying trading effects, compare executable spread and depth on a consistent basis rather than only looking at the last-traded price.
Readers following the broader market should keep counts separate from value. Twenty-five exclusions do not mean a specified amount of capital has been released, and two entries do not establish a particular investor loss. The chart counts securities under one review.
The useful result of reading the attachment is the removal of ambiguity. The dated event contains new entries, easing and exits, with some continuing series conditions. Understanding those differences is the advantage that a short “ESM update” headline cannot provide.
