Questions behind this topic

Why should fund returns be compared over the same period?

Different start and end dates can produce different results even for the same fund. Use a consistent window, plan and benchmark, then examine rolling periods and risk alongside the headline return. For multiple dated investments, a cash-flow measure such as XIRR answers a different question from lump-sum CAGR.

Are the calculator’s assumed returns a forecast?

No. The calculator applies a constant assumed annual return to regular month-end investments. Its result illustrates compounding and excludes tax, fees and inflation. Actual mutual fund returns vary over time, and the example does not promise the displayed investment value.
