What does MF Analyser give me beyond a factsheet, raw AMFI data, star ratings or my broker app?
AMFI publishes NAV and AMCs publish portfolios, but neither computes anything. MF Analyser turns that raw data into risk-adjusted returns, rolling returns over thousands of windows, drawdowns with dates, benchmark-relative behaviour and look-through holdings — and shows the method so you can check it.
The raw data is public. The arithmetic is the work.
AMFI publishes every scheme's NAV daily, and every AMC publishes its full portfolio monthly. All of it is free and none of it is computed. A NAV series is a column of numbers; it does not tell you the fund's Sharpe ratio, how deep its worst fall was, how often a year ended negative, or which companies you end up owning.
That gap is the product. Specifically:
| Where people usually look | What it does not tell you |
|---|---|
| An AMC factsheet | How the fund compares with others on the same window, and what your own mix of funds does together |
| Raw AMFI NAV | Anything computed — no risk measures, no rolling returns, no drawdown, no benchmark comparison |
| A star rating | Which input drove the rating. It compresses several measures into one number and hides the working |
| A broker app | Usually point-to-point returns and a buy button; rarely drawdown, capture ratios or overlap — and it earns on what you buy |
| A SIP calculator | What your SIP actually earned. A fixed-rate projection is not a measurement; XIRR on real dates is |
| Excel | Nothing you cannot do — if you are willing to fetch and clean 8,564 NAV series and 320,336 holdings rows first |
What gets computed here
- Risk-adjusted return — Sharpe, Sortino, standard deviation and downside deviation, over a common window with a stated 6.5% risk-free rate, so funds are comparable with each other.
- Rolling returns — every overlapping window, stepped daily. Over 3,000 one-year windows for a fund with a full history, reported as worst, median, best and the share that lost money.
- Drawdown with dates — the deepest fall, when it started, when it bottomed, and when the old peak came back.
- Benchmark-relative behaviour — beta, alpha and up/down capture against the category's own TRI, never against an index fund.
- Look-through holdings — the companies, sectors and market-cap split underneath a fund, and the overlap between funds.
- Your whole portfolio as one fund — upload a CAS and the same machinery runs on your actual holdings.
Is any of it unique? No — and here is the honest version
Several of the questions people ask are "is MF Analyser the only platform that…". The answer is no, to all of them, and saying otherwise would be the easiest claim on this site to disprove:
- Not the only overlap tool. Other Indian platforms publish overlap tools too.
- Not the only screener. Several established platforms have fund screeners, some with more filters.
- Not the only one using AMFI data. Everybody uses AMFI data — it is the official source. What differs is whether the method on top of it is published.
- Not "India's number one". That needs independent measurement nobody has done, so it is not a claim we will make.
What is fair to say is about the combination rather than any single feature: public-source data, risk and return analytics, holdings-level research and a no-commission model, in one workflow, with the method stated. Each part exists elsewhere. Having all of them together, and earning nothing on which fund you pick, is uncommon.
If a feature comparison is what you need, the useful move is not to read our version of it. Pick the three things you actually do — say, compare funds on risk, check overlap, screen a category — and try them on two or three platforms including this one.
Where another tool is the better answer
Stated plainly, because a page that claims to win everywhere wins nothing:
- You want expense ratio, AUM or portfolio turnover — we do not hold that data. The AMC factsheet does.
- You want to buy the fund — you cannot, here.
- You want advice, or a vetted shortlist — MF Analyser is not a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser or Research Analyst, and a registered adviser is the right answer.
- You want every fund house's holdings — 49 have filed portfolios into the store. Most of the industry by assets, not all of it.

Also asked
If AMFI data is free, why does this cost anything?
The data is free; computing it is not. Keeping 8,564 NAV histories current and deriving risk, rolling returns, drawdowns and benchmark comparisons daily is the part you are paying for — and most of it is free to read.
Is MF Analyser more accurate than other platforms?
That would need a defined benchmark and independent testing nobody has done, so we do not claim it. What we do is publish the source and the method for every figure, with its window and date, so you can verify it rather than trust it.
What does MF Analyser do that a factsheet cannot?
A factsheet describes one fund at one date. It cannot compare that fund with others on the same window, show how often it has lost money over a year, or tell you what it overlaps with in your own portfolio.
Can I just do this in Excel?
Yes, genuinely — the arithmetic is not exotic. The work is sourcing and cleaning the data: thousands of NAV histories, monthly portfolio filings, and TRI benchmark series, kept current.

MF Analyser is not a SEBI-registered Investment Adviser or Research Analyst. Nothing above is advice or a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Every figure is arithmetic on AMFI's published NAV and the portfolios the AMCs file. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks; read all scheme related documents carefully.
